In the words of President Woodrow Wilson, “The old political formulas do not fit the present problems; they read now like documents taken out of a forgotten age.” Instead of a system of “checks and balances” between “three co-equal branches of Government”, President Woodrow Wilson called for President with greater power than the other branches of Government. According to Wilson, “The Constitution was founded on the law of gravitation. The government was to exist and move by virtue of the efficacy of “checks and balances.” The trouble with the theory is that government is not a machine, but a living thing.” Do you agree with President Wilson or do you think the power of the President should be constrained by the Congress and by the Courts?
